My paintings develop organically, with layers of oil paint mixed with cold wax slowly building up over time. In the beginning, there is a great deal of freedom to create various textures, marks, and color combinations. This is followed by a more intentional approach, where I focus on developing a composition that feels both cohesive and fresh. I am particularly intrigued by the balance between chance and intention in this process.

In the end, the paintings tell a story through shapes, colors, and marks, inviting viewers to connect imaginatively and discover their own personal and emotional meanings.

Bio

Anne Hebebrand (b.1958 in Erlangen, Germany) creates abstract paintings rich with color and texture using oil and cold wax medium. A recipient of the Dana Pond Painting Award, Hebebrand earned a BFA from the Combined Degree Program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University in Boston, MA and a MA at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. 

Hebebrand’s  paintings are in many private collections in the United States, Germany and Mexico.  She  has been featured in several publications including the New York Times and Art New England.

The artist has participated in solo exhibitions at the Carver Hill Gallery, Camden, Maine, the Maine Jewish Museum of Art, Portland, Maine, the Galeria Militar, Todos Santos, Mexico, the Galeria de Todos Santos, Todos Santos, Mexico, the Frank Brockman Gallery, Brunswick, Maine, the Alexey von Schlippe Gallery, University of CT, Groton, Connecticut, Artworks Gallery, Hartford, Connecticut, the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, Augusta, Georgia; among others. 

Hebebrand  currently lives and works in Bath, Maine and spends the winter months in Todos Santos, Mexico.
